Robot Wars was a British game show modelled on a US-based competition of the same name. It was broadcast on BBC Two from 1998 until 2003, with its final series broadcast on Channel 5 in 2003 and 2004. Additional series were filmed for specific sectors of the global market, including two series of Robot Wars Extreme Warriors with U.S. competitors for the TNN network, and two of Dutch Robot Wars for distribution in the Netherlands. The fourth series of the UK Robot Wars was brought to the United States on TNN as Robot Wars: Grand Champions in 2002, and hosted by Joanie Laurer. In 2003, the roboteers themselves formed The Fighting Robot Association and with their associated event organisers, carry on participating in competitions for new audiences.

The series involved teams of amateur and professional roboteers who made their own robots to fight against each other in both friendly and tournament matches. As well as fighting each other, they had to avoid the “House Robots”, which were not bound by the same weight or weapon limits as the contestants. Robot Wars had peak audiences of 4 million, and was commercially successful in its merchandising.

Each Challenge pits numerous cast members from past seasons of Real World and Road Rules against each other (only the Fresh Meat Challenge has introduced new cast members that have never appeared on either The Real World or Road Rules), dividing them into two separate teams according to different criteria, such as by gender, which of the two shows they first appeared on, whether or not they’re veterans or rookies on the show, etc. The two teams compete in numerous missions in order to win prizes and advance in the overall game.

“Whose Line Is It Anyway?” (1998-2007, 2013-) is the US edition of the British show of the same name (with many of the same performers). It features some of the world’s finest improv(isational) comics, including Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles and Drew Carey (Drew also hosting most shows, Aisha Tyler hosting the 2013 season). Each week, the main four improv comics (and a guest improv comic) spontaneously play “theatre sports” with crazy scenes, weird quirks, or improvised songs.

The Decline of Western Civilization III is a 1998 documentary film directed by Penelope Spheeris that chronicles the gutter punk lifestyle of homeless teenagers. It is the third film of a trilogy by Spheeris depicting life in Los Angeles at various points in time. The first film dealt with the punk rock scene during 1980-1981. The second film covers the Los Angeles heavy metal movement of 1986-1988. The film involves hardcore street punks called “gutter punks” who take the anti-establishment message with extreme seriousness, and tune out society completely.
