Page Eight is lovingly turned, with elegant writing, a flawless cast and a heartfelt message from writer/director David Hare about the danger zone where spies and politicians meet. The tension builds gently as we follow the fortunes of Johnny Worricker, a jazz-loving charmer who works high up at MI5 as an intelligence analyst. It’s a part made for Bill Nighy and he purrs out bon mots with a weary panache that women 20 years younger find irresistible. One such is his neighbour, Nancy Pierpan (Rachel Weisz), in a Battersea mansion block. The question for Johnny is whether her interest in him is genuine or hides something darker. As his boss (Michael Gambon) puts it: “Distrust is a terrible habit.” Questions of trust, honour and friendship rumble through the play. The characters exchange oblique repartee as a plot about a damning dossier unwinds. It’s not to be missed.

The ladies of Pennytree, led by “Barbara the Bod” (Amy Lynn Baxter), are a hit with the customers, money is rolling into Pennytree and Simon is steaming. Simon’s not giving up and issues the ultimate challenge, a winner-take-all-match between Pennytree and Brentwood, “your pro against my pro.” The winner

After finishing the open examination for Form 5 students and applying for an adult identity card, Yoyo, eighteen, departs for London to meet a guy introduced by her well-meaning parents in Britain. The guy, named Cheung, is in his thirties. Yoyo’s and Cheung’s grandfathers were wartime buddies. They swore to have their unborn babies get married when they grew up. However, the babies turned out to be both women. The two women are now mothers. They come across each other again and want to make their fathers’ wish come true, so they arrange for Yoyo and Cheung to meet in London. Yoyo and Cheung promise to get marry in order to please their mothers. But on the wedding day, they also sign a divorce agreement which is effective one year after their marriage.

Pompous and self-absorbed Kyle, is unhappily stuck in his life, longing to relive the success of his first novel. His not-so-desirable life rapidly unravels forcing him to return home to his wildly eccentric family with his tail between his legs. Life at home begins to show signs of improvement when Kyle meets the spunky, vivacious girl across the street who recruits Kyle to help her make the world a better place, making him feel alive for the first time in ages and inspiring his writing. But its short-lived. Joys been told shes going to die soon and wants Kyle to write her obituary.

Joma believes that a “life charm” would help him win money for his debts. He then accidentally meets Diane who gives him luck after they’ve been close to each other. Everything goes well for both of them until they discover their luck will disappear if one of them falls for the other.
