A woman who has a funny bone for a backbone, Funny Cow charts the rise of a female stand-up comic who delivers tragedy and comedy in equal measure in the sometimes violent and always macho clubs of Northern England in the ’70s.

An all-Irish cast (including Donal McCann, Rachael Dowling and Colm Meaney) lends authenticity and gravitas to director John Huston’s final film, an elegiac take on a short story by James Joyce (from The Dubliners). Both Scotland Yard and an amateur American sleuth are tracking a master criminal known as The Frog. High-school principal Dr. Alfred Carroll relates to an audience of parents that marijuana can have devastating effects on teens.
