Detective Inspector Eva Thörnblad returns to Silver Height seven years after her daughter Josefine disappeared by a lake in the woods. The body was never found and the girl was believed to have drowned. Now a boy has vanished without a trace and Thörnblad wants to find out if there is a link to her daughter’s disappearance. At the same time , she will take care of the legacy of her father, the great entrepreneur Johan Thörnblad, who built an empire of timber and timber processing on the large forest owned by his ancestors. As the plot deepens more children are kidnapped and what initially seems like a police drama takes a more sinister and stranger twist with each episode.
Rederiet was a long-running Swedish soap opera that aired on Sveriges Television between 1992 and 2002. The cast featured many popular and renowned Swedish actors, and the show has often been referred to as Sweden’s version of Dynasty.
The 45-minute episodes were broadcast weekly on Thursday nights on the public-service channel SVT1 and normally had between one and two million viewers. For ten years, Rederiet was the number-one rated show on Swedish television, along with the rival TV4 show Tre Kronor. The competition for viewers can be compared to that between Dynasty and Dallas.
Rederiet also gained popularity in Finland on YLE TV2, and the show was a hit in Norway too on TV2. The first season of the show was also sold to Egypt. The later seasons of the series were produced in collaboration with YLE, which led most notably to Finnish actor Åke Lindman appearing in the series. Rapper Ken Ring also appeared as an extra in the show in 1996.
On April Fools’ Day 1993 SVT News announced that Mel Gibson was to play a lead role in the series. Gibson himself was interviewed and confirmed the information. It was later revealed that the whole event had been a joke.
The year is 1975, and the West German embassy in Stockholm is occupied by German terrorists. It’s an attack not only on the embassy, but on Sweden’s long-standing pride as a peaceful nation. In the aftermath of the violent occupation, the Swedish Security Police suspects the six terrorists had help from the outside, possibly from a group of Swedish sympathizers. But no leads can be found until fourteen years later.
Skärgårdsdoktorn was a Swedish television series produced by SVT Drama. The series ran from 1997 to 2000 and a total of 18 episodes were produced. In English, the title could be translated as The archipelago doctor, and it came to be one of the most popular Swedish TV series of the 90s, and with its average viewership of approximately 2.5 million it is considered one of the greatest successes of SVT Drama. Created by Lars Bill Lundholm and Gunilla Linn Persson, the first 8 episodes were directed by Martin Asphaug. The series was also broadcast in Norway, Finland and Denmark.
In May 2009, the plans to produce a cinema feature film of Skärgårdsdoktorn were announced. Featuring the same characters ten years after, the estimated release date is Christmas 2010, or possibly January or February 2011.
